Valley Peak Telecommunications Facility Limited Archaeological Study

Geologic testing, consisting of two small backhoe test holes, was conducted in advance of the construction of the new Valley Peak Telecommunications Facility on Santa Cruz Island in Santa Barbara County. At the request of The Nature Conservancy, FCS delineated and staked a small study area encompassing both locations and prepared an archaeological field work plan for conducting an archaeological evaluation of disturbed soils. Within the delineated area, FCS’s archaeologists performed a high resolution inspection to determine the presence or absence of sensitive cultural materials, conducted controlled systematic screening of excavated soils from the test holes and other disturbed surface soils, and assisted in clearing the site. Following the completion of the field investigation, FCS’s specialists prepared a letter report documenting our findings.
